When we see Matthew 28:19-20 today, the Great commission, a command from Jesus at the ascension, we normally think about mission and missionary. As Christians, we are supposed to reflect the image of God. The church In biblical times, a person's name is not just a "label" but a representation of a person's entire identity, this can include character. For example, Abram's name meaning "exalted father". God changed this name to Abraham, which means "father of a multitude" or "father of many nations", as part of a covenant that promised him to be the patriarch of many peoples. The list go on for Sarah, Moses, Jacob.....etc. So to make God's name known, we need to know how He has revealed himself to us in the Scriptures - who he is, what He has done, and what he promise. So that we can experience God in every high and low, joy and sorrow in our life. What then are the names of God revealed to us in the Scriptures? Without knowing God as He has revealed to us, we are in danger of creating our own God which result in idolatory and failure to reflect the image of God and even heresy.
